Whiskey just keeps on getting bigger, and with that, so do distilleries. Catoctiin Creek Distilling Co. announced its plan to triple its distilling capacity through a $1 million production facility upgrade.

The plans had been well under way but were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic; the expansion is now scheduled for completion in late June, according to a news release.

Catoctin Creek, located in Purcellville, Va., is replacing its 12-year-old, 300-gallon with a 2000-liter copper pot still from Specific Mechanical Systems in British Columbia, also adding a glycol cooling system; a new 2000L mash tank; six new 2000L fermenters; and concrete floors to replace the existing 100-year-old floors.

The old distillery equipment will be sold.

“As we continue to grow Catoctin Creek as a national brand, we must ensure we have enough whisky inventory to support future demand,” co-founder and general manager Scott Harris said in the news release. “This equipment expansion will guarantee our production capacity keeps up with sales for the next few years, at least.”
