Bourbon

February 21, 2017

Sazerac announced a one-time bottling of 25-year-old Van Winkle bourbon.

From 11 barrels that yielded 710 bottles, the April release’s MSRP is $1,800 for a 750 ml bottle.

According to a press release, it was distilled in the spring and fall of 1989 and stored on the lower levels of a metal clad warehouse built in 1935 at the Van Winkle family distillery in Shively, Ky., aka Stitzel-Weller. (Diageo owns Stitzel-Weller now.)

The barrels moved to Buffalo Trace in 2002 and aged for another 12 years in the lower floors in Buffalo Trace’s brick warehouses.

They’re bottled in handmade glass decanter from Glencarin Crystal Studio and boxed  by James Broyhill II of Heritage Handcrafted. The box includes oak staves from the barrels.
