An iconic San Francisco Christmas Spiced Ale from 2011 has been transformed into Old Potrero Christmas Spirit (50% ABV, 700ml, $139.99 SRP) by San Francisco’s Hotaling & Co. Distillery.

The distillers conjured the Christmas spirit by distilling the ale twice in copper pot stills before aging it for 12 years in once-used Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey Barrels. Now, this festive whiskey, which pays homage to San Francisco pioneers in brewing and distilling, will evoke the spirit of Christmases past with its evolving bouquet of orange, chocolate and vanilla, balancing flavors of roasted barley, sweet cinnamon and spiced berries.

“This special release captures more than the festive season in a bottle,” Liz Brusca, VP of Marketing at Hotaling & Co., said in a news release. “It brings together San Francisco’s rich brewing traditions and pioneering distilling innovations into one very delicious whiskey that is sure to bring joy to the holiday season.”

Featuring a To & From gift card neck tag on each bottle, Old Potrero Christmas Spirit is only available throughout California  (and via online purchase) beginning this month.
