Planteray Jamaica 1984 Rum bottle and box

Alexandre Gabriel, owner and Master Blender of Maison Ferrand and Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery, introduced Planteray Jamaica 1984 Rum, Planteray Rum’s oldest bottling ever released.

Limited to just one unique barrel, Planteray Jamaica 1984 Rum is an ultra-exclusive release of only 317 numbered bottles, each personally signed by Gabriel. The journey of maturation spanning four decades, and two different environments culminates in a rich and complex flavor profile.

This exclusive limited release was crafted at the world-famous Clarendon Distillery in Lionel Town, Jamaica. Distilled in a double retort pot still, this 40-year-old rarity carries the MMW (Monymusk Wedderburn) mark and is a 100% pot still rum embodying the quintessential essence of Jamaican rum.

Crafted in Planteray Rum’s signature double aging technique, this expression was aged 35 years in the tropical climate of Jamaica, then shipped by sea to the southwest of France, where it matured for another five years in ex-Ferrand casks.

After this extra-long maturation, the rum reached an ester level of 543 g/hL AA and 2006 g/hL AA volatile compounds. Bottled at cask strength, ensuring an unparalleled ripe fruit flavor combined with tannins from the extra-long maturation process, with light solvent notes and the tropical punch flavor that Jamaican rum is known for.

The packaging of Planteray Jamaica 1984 pays homage to the cask that nurtured the rum for four decades. Each bottle is encased in a bespoke wooden box, reflecting the heritage and artisanry behind the product, and each of the numbered bottles is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Gabriel.

With attention to every detail, even the bottle stopper sets this release apart. The stopper is styled on the bungs used world over to lock the rum away on its maturation journey and is made from Planteray Rum barrels. The stoppers also feature a medal at the top that is made from the barrel that housed the rum in Jamaica for 35 years as well as the individual number of the bottle, making each of the 317 bottle unique collectors’ pieces.

Planteray Jamaica 1984 is more than just a rum; it is a celebration of history, artisanry and innovation. With each sip, enthusiasts are invited to indulge in the richness of Jamaica’s distilling heritage, encapsulated in a once-in-a-lifetime product. From the Clarendon Distillery to your glass, savor the essence of time and tradition with Planteray Jamaica 1984 Rum.

Available as a one-time limited edition in very small quantities across Europe and the U.S., Planteray Jamaica 1984 Rum is bottled at 57.2% ABV (114.4 proof) with a suggested retail price of $1,900.00.
