New Riff Releases Two New Silver Grove Whiskeys
New Riff Distilling announced the dual release of two additional commemorative Silver Grove specialty bourbon and rye whiskeys — a nod to both the area’s distilling past and to New Riff’s future with the distillery’s warehouse in Silver Grove, Ky.
They are the first ever New Riff products to carry the signature of a master distiller, these special barrel proof blends from Master Distiller Brian Sprance. Product sale proceeds from the release, which have totaled nearly $62,000 to date, will continue to support the Silver Grove Community Foundation.
The inaugural Silver Grove blend released in 2023 truly embodied a new riff on an old tradition: a meeting place of vintage labels with a barrel-proof bourbon with unique flavors and a continuation of the distillery’s exploration of malted grains. Last year, the distillery announced a 2024 bottling of Silver Grove Bourbon along with the debut of Silver Grove Rye.
“At New Riff, we’ve always believed in letting the whiskey speak for itself, and this barrel proof release is its purest voice,” said Sprance.
Distilled in Newport by New Riff, the 2025 Silver Grove Straight Bourbon Whiskey is aged 4 years and barreled at 110.3 proof with a mashbill of 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley. The 2025 Silver Grove Straight Rye Whiskey is aged 4 years and barreled at 110.2 proof with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted rye.
“By bottling our signature bourbon and rye straight from the barrel, we’re showcasing the full depth, character, and complexity that make these whiskeys truly special,” Sprance said in a news release. “For this release, we hand-selected barrels that best exemplify the rich, layered profile of our bourbon and rye, making this an expression I’m especially proud to put my name on for the very first time.”
The Silver Grove Community Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life and support community-led projects in the city. In 2024, thanks to funds raised through sales of New Riff’s Silver Grove commemorative edition whiskey released the previous year, New Riff partnered with the organization to dedicate a new park at Green Valley Pond, featuring the addition of multiple utility installations and a recreational trail around the pond to connect to current sidewalks.
Aiming to meet their growing need for rickhouse expansion, the award-winning distillery made the decision to build a new barrel warehouse in Silver Grove in 2022, discovering a unique opportunity to significantly support that community through their philanthropic efforts just as they do Newport, President Mollie noted.
The new whiskeys will be available to purchase exclusively at New Riff’s gift shop for $55.99 beginning Friday, April 4.
