Oxmoor Farm Bourbon Documentary filming shot SQUARE

A new Kentucky Bourbon documentary brings together insiders for an intimate, hour-long conversation that uncovers unique and unexpected insights into America’s only native spirit.

Through exploring the spirit’s past and present, the discussion offers a compelling perspective on Bourbon’s role in shaping the identity of the United States and provides a framework for understanding and reflecting on the country’s current moment.

This co-production from Fokel Films & Distilled Living was filmed at the historic Oxmoor Farm in Louisville, KY, on March 3 & 4, 2025, and now enters post-production with anticipated public release for streaming late Spring 2025. This still untitled documentary is the first in a series of planned Bourbon films from this production team.

Oxmoor Farm is proclaimed as “The Home of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey” and the legal work done by the five generations who called it their home defined and defended the identity of Bourbon through law and regulation, ultimately determining what Bourbon is today.

Filming was selected for March 3, the anniversary of the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Law of 1897, which was the first protective legislation for Bourbon passed in the United States, and the day before the latest round in the US-Canadian trade war went into effect causing severe retaliatory tariffs against American whiskey and other American products.

In a unique style, the conversation is interspersed with interview footage and weaves sensory, history, law, and tradition together into a single story. Kentucky Bourbon – the product, industry, and culture – is used as a lens to explore the beauty, resilience, and contradictions of American identity.

From early settlers adapting to a new land to the impact of regulation, globalization, and shifting cultural values, the discussion examines the twin evolution of Bourbon and its nation, ultimately reflecting on what Bourbon’s past and present may reveal about America’s future.

The full list of discussion participants, interviewees and other contributors will be announced prior to release of the film. For more information, visit https://www.fokelfilms.com ‍ or https://distilled-living.com.
