Buzzard’s Roost Adds New Experiences at Whiskey Row Location
Buzzard’s Roost is launching three innovative new experiences at its distillery and tasting room on Whiskey Row.
The new experiences strengthen Buzzard’s Roost’s position as a unique destination on Whiskey Row offering innovative tasting and sensory experiences that appeal to both locals and tourists. All of the new experiences are now bookable online.
“We want Buzzard’s Roost to stand out as a destination where tourists and locals alike can come to not only taste and buy award-winning whiskey, but also learn about whiskey and the place that made it famous,” Buzzard’s Roost co-founder and CEO Judy Hollis Jones said in a news release. “So far, it’s working.”
When Buzzard’s Roost opened in 2023, the menu of interactive sensory experiences, included “Whiskey & Chocolate: The Perfect Pairing” and “Barrel Secrets Revealed.” Last fall, the “Sipping in Secret: How Prohibition Shaped America’s Cocktail Culture” launched in the new speakeasy-style lounge. The new experiences include:
Bros, Brides and Bourbon
This 90-minute experience was created for bachelor and bachelorette parties seeking private group experiences that offer both fun and facts. Groups of up to 12 will gain entry to the exclusive Buzzard’s Roost Speakeasy, where they’ll be treated to bottle service and hands-on craft cocktail instruction from a pro. Starts Feb. 21. Prices range from $150 to $200 depending on group size.
Straight from the Barrel
This experience starts with a tasting of two Buzzard’s Roost double-oaked single-barrel whiskeys (a bourbon and a rye) and after picking their favorite, guests will visit the Buzzard’s Roost still room (home of the famous Buzz Cauldron Vendome pot still) where they’ll fill their own bottle straight from the barrel with a whiskey thief. Guests will create their own labels and take home a bespoke bottle. Price is $100 per person, and $20 for additional guests who just want to taste. Starts March 14.
“Whiskey Row Revealed” Speaker Series
Director of Whiskey Education and author Susan Reigler will share stories of the people and the stories behind history of Whiskey Row during this monthly series of talks, inspired by the historic markers on Whiskey Row.
The series begins on March 22 when guests will learn about America’s First Cocktail Party and the story of Lexington-born hostess and socialite Clara Bell Walsh. In April, the topic will be Horses and Bourbon. The full schedule can be seen online here. Price is $25 per person and includes a craft cocktail or special pour.
In addition, Buzzard’s Roost has curated an exclusive experience for visitors who book through the KYHug.com tourism site. “The Buzz About Bourbon” includes the story of how bourbon was born and raised in Kentucky and why it’s such a deep and important part of the culture and lifestyle of Kentucky. Guests will taste through a selection of Buzzard’s Roost whiskeys that show the evolution of bourbon and rye. Price is $32 per person.
