Cathead Distillery Launches Hoodoo Espresso RTD
Cathead Distillery, Mississippi’s oldest legal distillery, announced the launch of Hoodoo Espresso, a ready-to-serve espresso martini.
Created by spirits industry veteran and Cathead Co-Founder Richard Patrick, the recipe includes just three ingredients: Cathead Vodka, direct trade coffee sourced from Louisiana- and Mississippi-based Northshore Specialty Coffee, and Demerara sugar. The result is a pre-batched bottled cocktail that delivers not only on flavor, but also on speed, efficiency, and consistency.
With a classic approach and straightforward ingredients, Hoodoo Espresso is well balanced, with a long finish of fruity, dark chocolate and a touch of caramel sweetness. Coming in at 60 proof, the convenient 750 mL bottle yields eight perfectly crafted espresso martinis — just shake for the quintessential creamy layer on top and serve.
“The espresso martini is the No. 1 ordered cocktail in the U.S.,” Patrick said in a news release. “Its staying power speaks volumes on our love for both coffee and cocktail culture; where Hoodoo Espresso answers the need for a more streamlined and simple option for both professional and home bartenders.”
Unlike other espresso liqueurs or vodkas on the market that often contain artificial ingredients and no actual coffee, Hoodoo Espresso packs a punch with 50mg of caffeine per 1.5 oz from quality single estate coffee beans. It also opens doors for other coffee-based cocktails that would otherwise require an espresso machine — just add soda water for an Espresso High Ball, or Licor 43 for a Carajillo.
At a suggested retail price of $35, it’s an accessible option for bars and restaurants to increase efficiency, ensure consistency, and cut down on extensive build times, while still providing high-quality cocktails.
“I am blown away with the depth of flavor and unparalleled quality of Hoodoo Espresso,” James Beard Award-winning chef and cookbook author John Currence said. “Cathead Distillery’s team and products are something EVERY Mississippian should recognize for their dedication to excellence.”
Hoodoo Espresso is now available in select states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington D.C, with additional regions to be added. It can also be purchased online at Seelbach’s and Cellar.com for nationwide shipping.

About Cathead Distillery
The first legal distillery in the state of Mississippi, Cathead Distillery was founded in 2010 by friends and blues fans Austin Evans and Richard Patrick. Located in the heart of downtown Jackson, the distillery currently produces seven small batch spirits — Cathead Vodka, Bristow Gin, Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur, and Old Soul Bourbon Whiskey — as well as a line of canned cocktails, Cathead Sparkling. The name “Cathead,” a term first coined by Mississippi blues musicians as a nod to respected artists, is the brand’s way of paying homage to the state’s rich musical heritage; in this spirit, Cathead also donates a portion of proceeds to nonprofits that contribute to the region’s abundant arts and culture.
