Old Potrero Releases Christmas Spirit Made from Spiced Ale
An iconic San Francisco Christmas Spiced Ale from 2011 has been transformed into Old Potrero Christmas Spirit (50% ABV, 700ml, $139.99 SRP) by San Francisco’s Hotaling & Co. Distillery.
The distillers conjured the Christmas spirit by distilling the ale twice in copper pot stills before aging it for 12 years in once-used Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey Barrels. Now, this festive whiskey, which pays homage to San Francisco pioneers in brewing and distilling, will evoke the spirit of Christmases past with its evolving bouquet of orange, chocolate and vanilla, balancing flavors of roasted barley, sweet cinnamon and spiced berries.
“This special release captures more than the festive season in a bottle,” Liz Brusca, VP of Marketing at Hotaling & Co., said in a news release. “It brings together San Francisco’s rich brewing traditions and pioneering distilling innovations into one very delicious whiskey that is sure to bring joy to the holiday season.”
Featuring a To & From gift card neck tag on each bottle, Old Potrero Christmas Spirit is only available throughout California (and via online purchase) beginning this month.
Old Potrero Christmas Spirit is available for presale via Hotaling & Co.’s bottle shop; bottles will ship beginning November 15. For more information on Old Potrero, visit OldPotrero.com; for more information on Hotaling & Co. visit HotalingandCo.com.

About Old Potrero
Old Potrero Rye Whiskey is a testament to the power of the pioneering spirit and the celebrated return of pot-distilled whiskey in the United States. Created by Fritz Maytag, the same beverage visionary who sparked the craft beer movement with his purchase of Anchor Brewing in 1965 and the founder of the original Anchor Distilling Co., now Hotaling & Co., Old Potrero is credited as the first American craft whiskey to hit the market since Prohibition. The brand’s whiskies are distilled in a small copper pot stills at the Hotaling & Co. Distillery in San Francisco from a mash of 100% rye malt.
