Nelson’s Green Brier to Honor Founder with New Release
Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery is honoring its original founder, Charles Nelson, with the release of Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey Bottled in Bond, a special edition recreation of Nelson’s 1860s recipe.
Since the distillery’s revival in 2014 by his descendants, it has become home to spirits including Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon, Nelson Brothers Reserve Bourbon, Nelson Brothers Rye and Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey.
The Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey Bottled in Bond, produced in a single distilling season at the Marathon Village Distillery, has been aged for six years and bottled at 100 proof, adhering to the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897.
“This specialty Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey Bottled in Bond release serves as our sign of respect to the longstanding quality and tradition in the industry,” Zach Kaufhold, distiller at Nelson’s, said in a news release. “We wanted to share that respect and honor by paying homage to Charles Nelson’s recipe to create this special edition bottle just as the Nelson family did in the late 1800s.”
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of opening the distillery in Marathon Village, and in honor of the milestone the brand has given new life to its exclusive Coopers Club, a members-only group for enthusiasts. The revamped Coopers Club includes first access to new releases such as the new Tennessee Whiskey Bottled in Bond, and distillery exclusive events but is only open to join during select times of year.
The mercantile shop at the distillery, located at 1414 Clinton St., will sell the Bottled in Bond for $49.99 beginning Friday, Oct. 4. Guests can also taste the newest release at the distillery restaurant and bar while supplies last.

ABOUT NELSON’S GREEN BRIER DISTILLERY
In 2006, Andy Nelson, along with his brother Charlie, stumbled upon the discovery that his great-great-great grandfather, Charles Nelson, was the founder of Tennessee’s largest pre-Prohibition distillery and produced the original Tennessee Whiskey. The distillery’s history dates back to 1860 and in 2019, Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery bottled the first batch of Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey since 1909. Since then, the distillery has launched Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon, Nelson Brothers Reserve Bourbon and more. The modern-day distillery, located at 1414 Clinton St. Nashville, TN 37203, is open to the public and offers educational and interactive guided tours, a product tasting, full-service restaurant and bar, as well as multiple event spaces and mercantile shop.
