Chicken Cock Whiskey announced the grand opening of its brand home, Circa 1856, on Thursday, June 27. Circa 1856 is a multi-faceted immersive brand experience offering tasting flights, a curated cocktail menu with pre-Prohibition and modern-style cocktails, a retail shop that feels like a living room, a unique barrel pick experience, exclusive offerings, and a microdistillery.

Circa 1856 is located in one of the oldest homes in Bardstown, KY, smack in the middle of historic downtown Bardstown. With this city being the Bourbon Capital of the World and the leading home of American whiskey tourism, Circa 1856 will be the first and only brand experience in the downtown area.

While there are other distilleries in the area, none are in Bardstown proper, so Circa 1856 will give visitors one more reason to contribute to the success and vibrancy of downtown Bardstown.

Featured at Circa 1856 will be Chicken Cock’s everyday lineup, including its Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye, Double Oak, newly released Small Batch Bourbon, and all annual limited releases – in tasting flights, by the pour, and in cocktails.

Through the microdistillery, Chicken Cock will explore limited offerings available only at Circa 1856. When available, Circa 1856 will offer some brand single barrel releases by the pour, such as the Garden & Gun Double Oak Single Barrel that it collaborated on earlier this year.

Soon after the grand opening, the brand will unveil a private cask single barrel 5-year-aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon and a treasured 15-year-aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which will be “Distillery Exclusives” only available at Circa 1856.

“Since resurrecting Chicken Cock in 2012, our vision has always been to stay true to the brand’s Kentucky origin story,” Chicken Cock Whiskey CEO Matti Anttila said in a news release. “We felt like now was the right time to have a space where we can curate the brand experience – go beyond telling the Chicken Cock story and show in person how amazingly rich the Chicken Cock story is – with a true brand home.”

In 1856, James A. Miller established the Chicken Cock Whiskey brand in Paris, KY, after his successful venture producing his celebrated J.A. Miller’s Old Bourbon, which dates back to the late 1830s. In the decades that followed, the whiskey quickly became a nationally distributed brand that was synonymous with a high-quality reputation and was the first brand in Bourbon County to ship its whiskey internationally. In 2012, Matti Anttila, Grain & Barrel Spirits CEO, rediscovered the brand and set out to resurrect it to its high-quality reputation and celebrated past.
