People love to eat. They don’t so much love to spell the names of their foods and drinks correctly, at least according to a new study.

As foods from around the world are continually introduced and people continue to butcher their pronunciations, Top10 Prepared Meal Delivery sought to discover if there is a correlation between Americans mispronouncing and misspelling famous food and drinks by analyzing global search trend data from Google with help from Ahrefs.

They even put together a Top 10, which seems fitting.

Out of all the most mispronounced food and drinks, Americans are guilty of misspelling Macaron (Mah-kuh-ron) the most. Pronounced Macaron (Mah-kuh-ron), research shows that it is the most misspelled among Americans, with 48,000 searches per month on average for Macaroon – which ironically is the other dessert many get confused about.

Italian food is the most mispronounced and misspelled with 4 of the top 10: Mascarpone, Bruschetta, Gnocchi, and Prosciutto. And second in the Top 10 is Mascarpone (Mass-car-po-nay), a popular cheese native to Italian culture – and the first of Italian foods most often said and spelt wrong with 12,100 searches per month on average. Popular incorrect variations include Marscarpone (10,100), Mascarpone (1,450), and Marscarpone (550).

The first drink on the list is the popular cocktail, the Daiquiri (Da-kuh-ree). Americans are guilty of misspelling this cocktail 10,000 times a month on average, with common misspellings being Daquiri (7,500), Daikiri (1,600), and Daquari (900).

Next is the famous Italian appetizer Bruschetta (Bru-sketta), with 9,400 misspelled searches on average per month by Americans for Bruchetta (3,600), Bruschette (3,100) and Bruscetta (2,700).

In fifth is another Italian favorite, Gnocchi (Nyo-key). Not only do Americans manage to mispronounce it, but they also misspell this delicious potato dumpling 7,800 times a month on average, with common misspellings being Gnochi (5,300), Gnocci (1,400), and Gnochhi (1,100).
