‘Happy Accident’ at Woodford Reserve Results in Chocolate Malt Whisper Bourbon
Woodford Reserve announced the release of a bourbon it says is the result of a “happy accident.” World, meet Chocolate Malt Whisper.
According to a news release, the bourbon was distilled immediately following the production of what was ultimately released as the 2019 Master’s Collection edition called Chocolate Malted Rye. Some of the flavor notes carried over into the distillate, and the result was a straight bourbon that contained hints of the chocolate malt.
“Sometimes unforeseen developments occur in the distillery that result in great flavors,” said Master Distiller Chris Morris. “This is one of those cases.”
Chocolate Malt Whisper is being released as part of the annual Distillery Series, which is led by Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall for sale at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and limited Kentucky retailers. There are three annual releases of the series.
The limited-edition bourbon was bottled at 90.4 proof and will carry an SRP of $49.99 per 375ml bottle.
