New Riff Announces Release of Stout-Inspired Winter Whiskey
When a beer drinker craves a beer in the coldest days of a gray winter, they often reach for a hearty chocolate stout. With its new Winter Whiskey, New Riff Distilling is hoping a few bourbon drinkers will have a distilled option.
A Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, Winter Whiskey was distilled with malted oat and chocolate malt to resemble a chocolate oatmeal stout, according to a news release.
There’s a connection: New Riff head distiller Brian Sprance previously worked for the Boston Brewing Company as a brewer at the Sam Adams Brewery in Cincinnati, and his goal was to marry brewing tradition with distilling tradition.
The mashbill includes 65% corn, 20% malted oats, 7% pale ale malt, 5% steel cut raw oats and 3% chocolate malt. Winter Whiskey is bottled in bond without chill filtration, aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.
Winter Whiskey will be available across New Riff’s distribution, with a suggested MSRP of $49.99 per 750ml bottle.
