Coppersea Distilling Announces Release of Excelsior Straight Rye
Coppersea Distilling, a farm distillery in New Paltz, N.Y., announced the release of Excelsior Straight Rye.
The name is a nod to the state’s resilience in the COVID pandemic, according to a news release from the distillery. It reflects Excelsior as New York’s state motto, which means “ever upward.”
Coppersea developed Excelsior Straight Rye in the style of a 19th-century-style rye whiskey, using local grain from neighboring farms for a mashbill of 80% rye and 20% malt barley.
Excelsior is also an Empire Rye, a New York-specific designation for ryes made with at least 75% rye from New York and aged in charred new oak barrels for at least 2 years, among other requirements.
The whiskey will be available at the distillery’s on-site Springtown Tavern with a MSRP of $50 per 750ml bottle.
