A bottle of the oldest whisky to ever be released has gone to auction.

The bottle is a 78-year single malt Scotch whisky from Macallan’s Red Collection, which comprises 40-, 50-, 60-, 71-, 74- and 78-year-olds. The auction by Whisky Hammer runs through Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

The 78-year old is being presented by The Macallan lead whisky maker Sarah Burgess and was laid down decades ago in The Macallan’s hand-picked oak casks. It is packaged in a hand-crafted oak box, made with the same oak used to make the casks.

The starting bid on the rare whisky was £10,000, but the auction features more than 3,000 lots in total featuring everything from standard drams to investment-grade bottles.
