A Kentucky developer plans to build a new distillery at the I-65 Clermont/Bardstown exit. A timeline hasn’t been announced, but further announcements regarding Clermont Distilling Co. are forthcoming, according to a news release.

Developer Lee Wilburn plans to build the distillery on 55 acres of land near Bernheim Forest, with distillery operations occupying roughly 15 acres of the property, with tourism amenities planned for the remaining 40 acres.

The developer announced plans as project tax incentives for Phase 1 received preliminary approval for KBI (Kentucky Business Investment) and KEIA (Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act) programs. Thursday’s approval is for Phase 1 of the project, specifically aimed at the Distillery operations. The incentive is expected to provide 22 full-time jobs for the distillery.

According to the announcement, construction plans for phase 1 are to begin in spring 2021. Renderings weren’t made available, but the distillery is planned to be traditional in design, energy efficient and set to use an on-site limestone water well for distilling. Also included will be a tasting room and gift shop, plus a rickhouse with a capacity of 24,000 barrels.
