Heaven Hill Warehouse Roof Gone; No Crazy Marketing Expected

Bourbon

July 8, 2015

In what can only be described as a bad week for bourbon, Heaven Hill Brands lost a roof to a Bardstown warehouse yesterday.

Local TV station WAVE 3 captured aerial views of the open warehouse caused by high winds.

Shortly after I Tweeted the WAVE story, whiskey geeks were quick to bring up cute marketing angles for Heaven Hill, wondering if there will be a “survivor” bourbon or batch similar to Buffalo Trace’s tornado warehouse.

That won’t be happening. Heaven Hill officials tell me that fixing the roof is their No. 1 priority, but the continued weather is not helping the matter.

With that said, Heaven Hill is the last company I’d expect to use an unfortunate incident to their marketing advantage. After all, the company once saw its distillery burn to the ground, and it has not turned that into special brand.

Nonetheless, the timing could not be more unsettling for bourbon fans as Brown-Forman hopes the Whiskey Row buildings can be saved.
