Leonardo DiCaprio Joins Sean Connery as Jim Beam Pitchman

Bourbon

Jim Beam is tapping back into its advertising roots—using celebrities to spread the whiskey word.

In a 17-second Jim Beam spot, Leonardo DiCaprio plays with a big ball of ice until it perfectly explodes into a whiskey glass. Then, he pours Jim Beam into the glass and says “cool bourbon.” DiCaprio, who recently said he was taking an acting respite, looks confident behind the whiskey glass and takes a sip. “Jim Beam,” he says, and it’s followed by Japanese letters.

The ad is only appearing in Asian markets, but it’s reminiscent of Jim Beam’s use of celebrities, including Elliot Gould, Joe Louis, Bettie Davis, Sean Connery and many others. Could we see more of these types of ads? I sure hope so. I’m tired of vodka getting all the celebrities.

During his James Bond days, Sean Connery appeared in several Jim Beam ads in the 1960s.
